Philosophy of Religion (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)

Evil is a problem, not because there is evil in the world or that there is so much of it in the world. The problem is not found in the lack of balance between good and evil in the world. The problem comes from the fact that if there is a deity that is all good, all knowing and all powerful, how can evil exist? As Christians we believe in a God who is all of these things and therefore the question asked of ourselves as people of the Christian faith and echoed by those outside of it more and more is does God create or allow evil to exist? One answer to this question is to say that human moral agents, not God, are the cause of evil. God is not responsible for the moral evil and in some sense created a world in which it is preferable that moral evil exists rather than it not exist or even be a possibility. Evil can be defined into two main types, moral and natural evil.

The only factual foundation that his argument holds, is that sometimes we let our wants and desires muffle our conscience. Everyone will have their own views on this, but it really varies upon each person. It is more difficult for the morally good person to complete a certain task, than it is for the "bad person" to complete the same task because, although they both have the same skill and resources, the morally good person must not only find the solution to the task at hand but also make sure it abides by his morals. The "bad person" doesn't have to pursue anything else after having found the solution.
One of the main traditional philosophical and religious concepts discussed in the main types of religions and philosophic movements are good and evil. They often are viewed as an opposition of the spiritual or other forces, which either guide people, manifest or characterize their actions. Similarly, they are connected with the issue of morale being the core of moral judgments.
